Legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76. In a statement released by his family, they shared their profound sorrow, saying, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Osbourne, famously known as the frontman of the iconic rock band Black Sabbath, was a trailblazer in the world of heavy metal music. Born in Birmingham, England, Ozzy formed Black Sabbath in 1968 alongside fellow members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Together, they created some of the most influential music in rock history, including anthems like “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” “Paranoid,” “Children of the Grave,” and “Sweet Leaf.”
Throughout his career, Osbourne received numerous accolades, including two Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Despite the band’s meteoric rise to fame, Osbourne’s journey was marked by personal struggles, including a notorious battle with alcohol and drug addiction. His addiction ultimately led to his departure from Black Sabbath in 1979, though he continued to build a successful solo career.
In addition to his musical legacy, Ozzy Osbourne was honoured with a star on the “Walk of Stars” on Broad Street in his hometown of Birmingham, England. Ironically, Osbourne did not have a driver’s license until the age of 61, having failed his driving test 19 times before finally passing.
