“I Never Meant to Hurt Anyone”: Penny Ntuli Clarifies N3 Highway Twerking Stunt

A recent video of Jozi FM presenter Penny Ntuli dancing and twerking on the N3 highway has gone viral, sparking both praise and controversy. In the footage, Penny and a friend are seen dancing on the side of the busy freeway to music while oncoming vehicles approaches.

Penny, who posted the video to her social media, with the caption: “In whatever happens empilweni (life), please remember you’re still young, stop worrying about everything.”

While the video exuded a carefree and fun vibe, it quickly attracted criticism, particularly from safety authorities. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) wasted no time condemning the stunt, emphasising the danger of such behaviour on a national road. “Pedestrians are prohibited from being on freeways under the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA), and it’s illegal,” the RTMC stated. “Content creators should not risk their lives for ‘likes.’”

Despite the backlash, Penny responded with another video defending her actions. She explained that the intent behind the video was never to encourage unsafe behaviour, but rather to spread a positive message about living life without excessive worry.

“I never meant to hurt anyone,” Penny clarified. “But sometimes, because I’m Penny Ntuli, things like this are blown out of proportion. If it were anyone else, it wouldn’t even be discussed.”

Acknowledging the danger of her actions, Penny urged her followers not to replicate what she did. “Being on the side of the road is dangerous, and I understand that now,” she admitted. “Please don’t turn this into a challenge.”

The issue of Penny being a “role model” also came up after fans questioned her influence on the youth. “I’ve never given anyone the authority to look up to me as a role model,” Penny responded.

She added that it’s unfair to expect public figures to limit their personal expression because of how others might perceive it, especially when it comes to their own children.

“I’m not here to raise other people’s children,” she said. “People can take motivation from my posts, but don’t put me in a position where I have to second-guess everything I do.”
