The newest highly anticipated Ryan Murphy project is out, and it is actually much better than what we might have hoped based on the way it was promoted.
The beauty is a complex deadly virus, a slow killer if you will. Each episode introducing us to characters with complex dilemmas in their lives that they want to be rid of by all means necessary, and they are each faced with the question, “how bad do you really want this?”
We are introduced to two detectives, Jordan Bennett and Cooper Madsen, who have a very complex relationship as casual sex partners beyond their job. One of them wanting it to become something more and the other creating an imbalance by wanting to keep the relationship strictly casual. Together they investigate the strange phenomenon that is “the beauty”. A new sexually transmitted disease that quite literally turns you beautiful, but at the cost of your life.
The first victim of “the beauty” is supermodel Ruby, played by Bella Hadid, who suffered a tragic fate due to this disease. Her death led to speculation and investigations of this new epidemic as there were more cases in other parts of the world similar to Ruby’s.
We then meet Jeremy, a down-on-his-luck overweight, unemployed incel who lives with his mother and hates his life as an unattractive individual. He goes by all means to be beautiful and attract women, until he is introduced to a surgeon who changed his life. Jeremy becoming our first example of how “the beauty” is transmitted and what it does to your body. With his new look finally releasing him from his previous personal hell of being unattractive, Jeremy finally lives the life of his desires, but his newfound freedom comes with unexpected twists.
After having an honest conversation with each other about what they want their relationship to be, Jordan and Cooper decide to keep their relationship casual, leading to Jordan having a one night stand with a handsome stranger. Unbeknownst to Jordan, she wakes up with fever-like symptoms and is now a new victim of “the beauty”.
