Some South Africans who are based in other countries will be allowed to travel from here abroad. This applies to those who are working or studying overseas, for family reunions, those who need to take up permanent residency in another country or for medical attention.
That’s according to Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi. He says this follows consultations with the International Relations and Cooperation Department and the National Coronavirus Command Council.
South Africa has implemented travel restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19. Under lockdown, international travel has only been allowed in special circumstances.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has, following consultations with the @DIRCO_ZA and the National Coronavirus Command Council, approved essential travel for South Africans who want to return to countries where they are based

South Africans wishing to return to the countries where they reside should have the following:

(c) Proof of means of travel such as air or bus tickets and the intended date of departure. South Africans who fall in these categories and satisfy the criteria can send an email to Covid19travel@dha.gov.za.
