COVID-19: Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says isolation period reduced to 10 days

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has announced that the COVID-19 isolation days have been reduced to 10 days, from 14 days.

However, patients with severe cases and have been in hospital under oxygen, must continue to isolate for another 10 days.
Mkhize also introduced a new track and trace system.

The digital health system is called Covid Connect, available on all mobile phones.

“This recommendation is based on the evidence that most patients with a mild COVID-19 infection continue to share the virus from their upper airways for approximately 7 to 12 days. The detectable virus when testing doesn’t necessarily imply infectiousness,” said Mkhize.

Mkhize says the system will continually engage with the affected user and will help zone in on possible COVID-19 contacts.

The Health Ministry gave an update on the revised isolation guidelines and track and trace systems on Friday.  Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday
