Well-known journalist Iman Rappetti will be joining Faith Mangope as co-host of the Power FM breakfast show from Monday 24 August. Power FM made the announcement early on Wednesday 19 August.
The radio changes come after the tragic passing of radio legend Bob Mabena who worked alongside Mangope. The broadcast veteran passed away on Monday 10 August after suffering cardiac arrest. He had been discharged from hospital where he had spent the weekend but died just hours later.
Rappetti also took to Twitter on Wednesday, letting the cat out of the bag. She said; “Beloved!!!!! I’ll be joining Faith Mangope for power breakfast from Monday! Did you know that Iman means Faith in Arabic? This was destined! Even though we are still in mourning over Bob Mabena, we pick up the torch and keep it burning.”
One SA movement leader Mmusi Maimane also chimed in saying; “Faith and Faith. It’s an amazing duo and I am sure it’s going to be amazing radio. I will be tuning in.”
MSG Afrika chairman Given Mkhari made the first announcement on Power FM, saying that Mabena’s untimely passing raised the question of what must be done next.
“We will not try to replace Mabena because that is humanly impossible. We have arrived at a position to look among ourselves as a family. One of the family members that people have not heard in quite a while, we reached out to her. One of our own, Ms Iman Rappetti, has agreed to come and support Faith and work with yourself [Mangope] for now,” said Mkhari.
