Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu is investigating all recent emergency housing projects following a public outcry over shoddy workmanship.
Concerns were also raised that the units were overpriced. More than 40 structures were built in Tzaneen in Limpopo at a cost of R2-million.
A similar project in Burgersfort costing R17-million, has since been halted.
Sisulu has instructed her Director-General to investigate all Temporary Residential Unit projects.
She says there is a responsibility to spend limited resources wisely and that shoddy workmanship will not be tolerated.
The Minister said action will be taken if norms and standards have been flouted.
