South Africa reports 101 deaths, 1,806 new COVID-19 cases

More than 70 percent of South Africa’s active COVID-19 cases are in just three provinces Gauteng, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

The health department says there are 60,901 active cases. A further 101 COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.

Ten patients died in the Western Cape, 11 in the Eastern Cape, 16 in Gauteng, 19 in the Free State and 45 in KwaZulu-Natal.

The total death toll is now approaching 14,800. The recovery rate is still at 88 percent, meaning nine of every ten COVID-19 positive people have recovered.

The number of tests conducted to date is 3,783,823 with 18,123 new tests conducted since the last report.
