Anti-gang unit commander, Charl Kinnear, will be buried on Saturday. Kinnear was gunned down outside his home in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, just over 2 weeks ago.
He worked on several high-profile investigations. Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to attend the funeral.
One suspect, a former professional rugby play, Zane Killian has been arrested and is expected back in court on Monday.
Cele says police will make more arrests in connection with the murder.
