Cape Town sees fewer arrests due to booze ban

The City of Cape Town says fewer arrests were made on New Year’s Day than in previous years.

It believes this is because of the alcohol ban. Western Cape police issued nearly 3,000 fines for contravening the Disaster Management Act.

Most were for not adhering to the 9 pm to 6 am curfew.

“We had a very successful operation and we were across the City of Cape and we attended all the hotspots,” says Mzwakhe Nqavashe.

According to Nqavashe, many were generally complaint.
