The KwaZulu-Natal government is getting the COVID-19 second wave under control, according to some unions. They’re responding to reports that the province is failing to deal with the impact of the virus.
Unions say, however, that the health department needs to improve its system for admitting patients and allocating beds.
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa says the situation in the health system is still manageable.
The provincial government agrees things are under control. The health department is currently recommissioning field hospitals.
It says it’s coordinating beds in both public and private hospitals.
