The Health Department reported 52 more COVID-19 related deaths taking South Africa’s COVID-19 death toll to 49,993. The department also reported 1,168 new COVID-19 cases.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a move from adjusted Level 3 lockdown to Level 1.
Ramaphosa gave an update on the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday after consultations with the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) and Cabinet.
South Africa’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 94.5 percent.

In other news – Five dead after vehicle smashes into wall and burst into flames
An inquest docket has been opened at Madeira Police station in Mthatha following the death of five people on Sunday morning.
According to the Provincial Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape, the five were burned beyond recognition when a BMW sedan they were travelling in crashed into a boundary wall of the houses along the street in the early hours of Sunday morning. Learn more
