Gauteng police are investigating a case of arson after a fire broke out at the Carletonville Hospital on the West Rand on Thursday.
Thousands of rand’s worth of personal protective equipment was destroyed in the blaze, as well as ventilators.
No one was hurt.
The storeroom was also being used by the Gauteng Infrastructure Department to store equipment for the Anglo Gold Ashanti mine hospital, which is being revamped as a COVID-19 treatment facility.
The Gauteng Health Department says the hospital’s operations have not been affected.
