The second batch of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines has arrived

The next batch of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines has arrived. A South African Airways flight bringing the 80,000 vaccines from Belgium landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday morning.

The second batch of vaccines is reserved for frontline healthcare workers.

The single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been shown to be 82 per cent effective in preventing severe illness from the South African variant.

Active cases in the country have now dropped to less than 35,000. The department said the recovery rate now stands at 94 per cent with more than 63,000 vaccines administered.

In Other News – Over 1,650 new COVID-19 cases, 117 deaths recorded in SA

The Health Department has released the latest COVID-19 statistics. It said that 117 more people have succumbed to COVID-19 related illnesses. This brings the total COVID-19 death toll in the country to 49,784.

Over 1,650 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the last 24-hour reporting period. learn more
