Police are keeping a close eye on Durban’s CBD.
Two people believed to be foreign nationals have been injured and their shops set alight in the city centre.
It’s alleged that a group of people went around attacking foreign nationals.
Several shops have also been looted.
No arrests have been made.
“During this altercation, two individuals were badly assaulted by the group and had to be taken to hospital to receive medical attention,” said KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker.
“Police then responded and the suspects fled into the crowd that had gathered at the scene.
“Durban Central Police are investigating a case of public violence and they are monitoring the situation as we speak.”
Authorities say they’re working with all stakeholders to find a lasting solution.
