Nearly 9,000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in Limpopo. Medical personnel have lined up at the vaccination centre in Polokwane to get the jab as the province continues with its inoculation drive over the weekend.
Frontline workers who’ve received their jabs say they feel relieved. I was scared, but at the moment I feel happy and safe,” says Marata Thosago.
“As a frontline worker, I’m looking forward to continuing doing what I do best. And now that I’m vaccinated of the confident it’s also that it used to be safer,” said Moledi Rampedi. For some, the needle was a bit much. But some are saying the rolling out of the vaccine is progressing too slowly.
Those running healthcare institutions are calling for more responsible behaviour from South Africans to avoid a catastrophe.
“We are placing great confidence and we are appealing to the public to please adhere to the basic protocols that have been put in place over the last few months we know what they are,” says Netcare Pholoso hospital manager, Fabion Bennett.
“It’s all about social distancing it’s all about handwashing, avoiding big crowds. We are appealing to the public to rather keep us away from a third wave,” says Bennett.
Provincial health authorities say they are pleased with the way the vaccination rollout is going.
So far we have vaccinated around 8,850, if I’m not mistaken, it’s roughly around that the number could have increased… but otherwise we are there,” saids Limpopo Health MEC, Phophi Ramathuba.
