President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver a virtual Human Rights Day address on Sunday.
This year’s Human Rights Month is being commemorated under the theme ‘The year of Charlotte Maxeke – Promoting Human Rights in the Age of COVID-19’.
This marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the liberation struggle hero and human rights campaigner.
Human Rights Day commemorates the Sharpeville Massacre.
On this day in 1960, 69 people were killed when apartheid security forces cracked down on peaceful protesters.
A further 180 people were injured in the march against pass laws imposed on black people.
