At least 53 more people have died due to the coronavirus, bringing the national death toll to 53,940. The health department said 1,569 new infections have been reported.
Active cases are now just over 20,000.

KwaZulu-Natal has the most active cases at nearly 5,000. The Northern Cape has overtaken the Western Cape with over 3,000 cases.
