Gender Equality Commission says there’s no accountability in fighting GBV

The Commission for Gender Equality says there is no accountability in the government’s fight against gender-based violence. The commission has released its report on the Government Emergency Response Action plan on GBV and femicide. President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled the plan in 2019 and allocated R1.6 billion for its implementation.

“The effectiveness of promises is in the oversight is in strengthening accountability whereby there is non-implementation,” says the Commission’s Nthabiseng Moleko.
When we look at the backlog of cases there should be the performance assessment of those responsible, they should be held liable,” she says.

From an institutional perspective, according to Moleko, they need to be held to account and heads must roll.
