A man arrested in connection with starting a fire on Table Mountain made a brief appearance in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning.
He was arrested on Monday and has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
The devastating fires, which started on Sunday, continue to burn with firefighters working around the clock to douse them.
The man said he lives in a structure on the mountain and stated he is not guilty of the charges brought against him.
