About 4000 students had to evacuate and move to temporary accommodation. UCT has suspended classes for the rest of the week.
Labor Minister Thulas Nxesi’s house is one of the property burned down by a fierce wildfire. The homes of the other three members of the Cabinet also had to evacuate to Warmer Estate early Monday morning. Zara Nicholson, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, says no one was injured.
“This department is in contact with various ministries to determine the level of supporting the family needs, but they were all able to secure alternative accommodation. Further assistance is needed.
