1 in 4 testing positive for COVID-19 in Northern Cape, says NICD

One in four people tested for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape is positive.

This as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in the province.

Data collected up to 15 May shows infections rising by 1.3 percent compared to the previous week.

Professor Adrian Puren from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) is calling on all those who can access the jab to get vaccinated.

“This is really a critical time I’m sure for all the provinces but in particular a province such as the Northern Cape which has essentially not come out of its resurgence,” Puren said.

“In fact, it’s persistently remained in the second wave with very high incidents compared to the other provinces.”
