Double murder suspect caught sleeping

A double murder accused had a rude awakening when officers pounced on him while he was sleeping at 1am in Wesbank.

At the time of his arrest, Mfuleni SAPS, with the assistance of the Crime Prevention Unit, found the 28-year-old in possession of a loaded firearm in Main Road, Wesbank.

Officers followed up information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspect in the murder case that occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Charlo Street in Wesbank. “As the members entered the house, they found the suspect sleeping inside the house, in possession of a 9mm firearm and seven rounds.

“He was arrested, and ownership of the firearm is yet to be determined. The firearm will also be sent to ballistics for analysis. Once charged, he will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the double murder,” said police spokesperson FC Van Wyk.

This was after a crime intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of three suspects aged 28, 30, and 32 for the possession of stolen property on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off of alleged stolen vehicles being stripped on premises in Second Avenue Zwelitsha, Nyanga, officers went to the mentioned address where they found the three men disassembling two vehicles, a BMW and an Audi.

“Information about the vehicles was followed up and found to be stolen in the Nyanga and Muizenberg. The suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once charged,” said Van Wyk.
