Over half of the bodies of illegal miners found at a mine shaft in Orkney in the North West have been identified as Lesotho nationals.
Families have arrived to identify the remains of their loved one’s at a government mortuary in Klerksdorp.
Police say the body count is now at 21.
The burnt and decomposing of the illegal miners were found outside a disused mine shaft last week.
It’s believed the illegal miners may have been killed by a gas explosion at an abandoned shaft.
The Lesotho government has confirmed that over 10 of the bodies discovered are Lesotho nationals.
“The number has actually increased now because a lot of people have arrived,” said Selimo Thabane, Lesotho General Consul.
