Maskandi stars at war

A war of words has erupted between maskandi artists Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele and Khangelani “DSD” Mhlongo.

This after DSD released the song Awuyazi le Ngoma, which disses Mthandeni.

And in an Instagram post, DSD challenged Igcokama to a stick fight or boxing match.

He wrote: “Yisho usuku nendawo. Bese ukhetha ukuthi ufuna iboxing match noma izinduku. Kukuwe. Dankie.” (Name the place and date, and then choose between a stick fight or box matching. It’s up to you. Thank you).

DSD said: “Last year Igcokama released a song where he threatened me. He said he was going to finish me off like my white-branded shirts. I took offence. Those shirts are my products and are worn by my loyal fans. Making fun of them was downright disrespectful.”

He then wrote the song Awuyazi le Ngoma, which means you don’t know music.

“I’m reminding him we’re not in a competition. He’s a baby when it comes to maskandi music. The tune he’s singing is not his. He copied it from me.”

Mthandeni said: “I don’t take DSD seriously. If he was smart he’d have seen that the song he’s referring to was a joke.

“I’m aware of his new song and it doesn’t worry me. He had to include that song because he wants my attention.

“Unfortunately, I’ve decided not to entertain these maskandi artists. These PR stunts work for them, but not for me.

“They tend to forget that this is all a game and things get personal and out of hand.”
