Tensions diffused at Witbank Technical High School

Tensions have diffused at the Witbank Technical High School in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

This after a protest by parents outside the school premises over an alleged racial incident.

Education authorities have since suspended academic activities for a week.

The parents’ protest was sparked by fighting between some white and black pupils.

Now academic activities have been suspended for a week to probe the racism allegations.

“It is something that is unacceptable and we should manage and people must accept that there should be transformation and provide learning and teaching to these children irrespective of the colour and it’s quite unfortunate,” says education MEC, Bonakele Majuba.

Some parents of the black pupils say they just want fair treatment. The education department has pleaded with all parties to stay calm while it is finding solutions.

Meanwhile, pupils who were suspended will have the opportunity to present themselves before a hearing on Thursday. And their parents are quite adamant that justice will prevail.
