The N3 highway near the Mooi River toll plaza in KwaZulu-Natal remains closed following violent overnight protests.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as clean-up operations continue.
Protesters blocked roads and torched trucks in parts of the province, calling for the release of former President Jacob Zuma.
Several protests took place in various parts of KZN on Friday.
Supporters of former president Jacob Zuma want him free and out of prison.
Zuma is in jail as part of his 15-month sentence handed down by the Constitutional Court for contempt.
