The Western Cape Health Department has said it’s anticipating an increase in COVID-19 and trauma cases.
The department said it’s already witnessing a rise in admissions at its facilities; this has been attributed to recent taxi violence in the province.
Western Cape Province Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo said, “when there are gatherings it’s bound that there will be a high level of transmissions, but it’s still too early to say…When there is civil unrest it does have a huge impact on the delivery of services even prior to gatherings, shooting did have an impact on our services in regards to trauma cases and forensic investigations…we have seen in the past when we had gatherings where we had 9% increase in trauma cases.”
