Increased police deployment expected ahead of Jacob Zuma trial

Police Commissioner, Khehla Sitole, is reportedly extending the deployment of officers to hotspots in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal.

This is in anticipation of protests ahead of Former President Jacob Zuma’s court appearance for his Arms Deal corruption trial.

Zuma is serving a 15-month prison term for contempt of court.

He has asked the Constitutional Court to reverse that decision.

While the court has reserved judgment in that application, it is now asking parties for more information.

It wants to know if it should consider the UN’s International Convention on Civil and Political Rights.

It includes the protection of rights of due process and fair trial.

Zuma maintains he was detained without trial or due process.

None of the teams involved in the rescission application referred to the Convention.
