List of some SA celebrities who died before the age of 40

No doubt South Africa has become one of the world’s powerhouse when it comes to entertainment. Celebrated entertainers have been thrust into the limelight with their unmatched talents.

Well, some have made all sorts of headlines back home and some have become global sensations. However, in the mix of things along the way South Africa has lost several entertainers before the age of 40. Here is a list of some celebrities who died before reaching the age of 40.

Luzuko Nteleko

Nteleko’s family confirmed he succumbed to stage four brain cancer on Monday, 21st June 2021. Doctors diagnosed Luzuko with brain cancer two years ago. The late South African actor appeared in shows like Muvhango, Zone 14, and Ring of Lies. The 36-year-old Luzuko had a unique comic nature and fluently spoke Xhosa, Sotho, Zulu, Xitsonga, and English.

Kwaito Queen; Mshoza Wamaboza

On the 19th of November 2020, Mzansi and the world at large woke up to the sad news about the death of the Kwaito Queen; Mshoza Wamaboza. The celebrated Kwaito Queen died at the age of 37-years. According to her manager, the Kwaito Star died peacefully in her sleep with the cause of death still under investigation.

Mshoza joins the list of South African artists such as; HHP, ProKid, Flabba, Mandoza, Sfiso Ncwane, Lundi Tyamara and the legendary Brenda Fassie who all died before the age of 40-years.

HHP (1980-2018)

Celebrated hip-hop star Jabulani Tsambo who was better known by his stage name; Hip Hop Pantsula or HHP took his own life after suffering from depression and attempting suicide several times in 2015. He died in October 2018. His lifeless body was found by his close friend and producer on his bedroom floor. His last heart-wrenching words before he ended his life were: “I’m depressed. I’m going out of control. I’m losing it.”

Prokid (1981-2018)

Hip-hop star Prokid born Linda Mkhize passed away at the age of 37-years. He died in August 2018. Prokid died two weeks before HHP died. The celebrated hip-hop star died from a rare cause of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. He apparently died in the arms of his girlfriend; Mandisa Mbanjwa.

Lundi Tyamara

Gospel star; Lundi Tyamara died after a long battle with stomach TB and a liver condition. The 38-year-old died in Edenvale hospital in Johannesburg in January of 2017. Lundi was one of the best gospel artists that South Africa had ever produced and loved for his energetic stage performances, created classics such as Mphefumlo Wami and Ndixolele.

Mandoza (1978-2016)

Celebrated Kwaito hitmaker Mduduzi Tshabalala died in September 2016. The iconic kwaito godfather was affectionally known as Mandoza. He died at the age of 38-years after a long battle with cancer.

Sfiso Ncwane (1979-2016)

Gospel star Sfiso Ncwane passed away at the age of 37 years in December of 2016 after complications related to kidney failure. He was rushed to Life Fourways Hospital in Johannesburg the night before and passed away in the morning.

Flabba (1977-2015)

Nkululeko Habedi popularly known as Fladda died at the age of 37-years. The sensational hip-hop musician passed away to a fatal stab wound at his flashy mansion in Alexandra after an altercation with his girlfriend; Sindisiwe Manqele. Flabba was a member of the South African hip-hop collective; Skwatta Kamp. He passed away in March of 2015.

Brenda Fassie (1964-2004)

Celebrated South African pop legend Mabbrr or Brenda Fassie passed away in May 2004. The wild child of South African pop succumbed to an asthma attack that led to heart failure and brain damage. The multi-award-winning star died at the age of 39-years.
