SAD scenes: Local Boko Haram gang member shot dead – VIDEO

More and more residents are placing their hope in a mysterious figure known as the John Wick of Mzansi.

As residents struggle under the rule of the brutal local “Boko Haram” gang, there was jubilation after an alleged leader of a so-called Boko Haram gang in Mamelodi, Tshwane was murdered on Tuesday.

The man, identified as Phillip Given Mnguni (35), was killed on the N4 near the Diamond Hill Toll Plaza in Tshwane while his girlfriend sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital. His body was found lying in the bushes.

And an unidentified silver-grey Mercedes-Benz was seen near the road. The publication published the story on 18 October, headlined: “John Wick on the prowl taking on Boko Haram”.

But when the publication hit the streets of Mamelodi, people didn’t want to talk, especially if “Boko Haram” was mentioned.

People are afraid because they believe the gang members live close by and are among them.

But on Facebook, people had no problem singing the praises of the faceless John Wick, who is said to be behind the killings of gang members. Joenas Mokwata wrote on about the death of Mnguni: “Good development, Boko Haram have killed several innocent people.” Alick Kazembe wrote: “This self-proclaimed Boko Haram gang has been terrorising Mamelodi communities for years, now someone has come to put a stop to it.”

Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, said Boschkop police responded to a shooting on Tuesday where a man was killed and his girlfriend was injured. He said police were told a black VW Polo was shot at by occupants of a silver-grey Mercedes-Benz. The driver of the Polo lost control of the vehicle, which came to a stop not far from the road.

“The Task Team established to investigate gang activities in Mamelodi had already linked him to several cases linked to the Boko Haram gang,” added Muridili.

Mawela said: “The driver of the Polo was declared dead at the scene, while the passenger was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.”

He said the task team established to probe gang activities in Mamelodi had already linked him to several cases of the “Boko Haram”.

“This particular deceased was the number one wanted suspect in our investigations into the Boko Haram activities,” he said. “The police are on the lookout for the silver Mercedes-Benz that was allegedly used by the shooters.

No one has been arrested yet and the police have registered a case of murder and attempted murder.”

Mawela appealed to anyone who may come across the Mercedes-Benz to call the police CrimeStop number on 08600 10111.

Gauteng DA leader, Solly Msimanga said they have been calling from the national level for something to be done about gangs.

“Almost every week there is killings of what’s alleged to be a gang member. I’m told there is more than one gang in Mamelodi.”
