Angie Diale (born in 1966) was a South African HIV activist, spokesperson. She was also a health and relationships counselor and TV personality. She rose to prominence for being the host on Relate, an factual entertainment series broadcast on SABC1.

She gained popularity for being referred to as Mzansi’s counselor. Fixing people’s relationships and other things like the country’s service delivery issues was what she knew how to do best. 

In an interview session with TshisaLIVE, she said that she learned her life lessons from growing up in a “toxic environment”. In the environment, there were series of gender-based violence was rampant.

Background

She was born Angie Diale into a family in which her dad assaulted her mom on several occasions. He would bring another woman that was not his wife into his matrimonial home. She grew up in Meadowlands, Soweto, South Africa.

After observing the pain her mother underwent getting married to her father, he advised her to leave. Mam’ Angie told her mother to leave him, “He will kill her”. To help her mother out of the marriage, she took her mother’s Identity Card out of her drunk father.

In his sickbed, her father sent for her to reconcile with her and her mother. He died the same day after he asked for them to forgive him.

Mam’ Angie was passionate about communication among the youth, communities, and parents. As a facilitator, she was behind IT Takes Courage.

The curriculum primarily assists people both young and old to identify their dreams. It also helps them to learn about relationships both healthy and unhealthy.

Most times, she beings dialogue using academic institutions like schools and religious institutions like churches. Angie also uses street corners to start the dialogue.

She served as the spokesperson for the National Department of Health in 2005. As a content advisor and resident counselor, she worked on the youth series, Choice, a broadcast on SABC1.

In 2015, she became the host of Please Step In, an Mzansi Magic docu-reality series.

Angie Diale worked for World Vision South Africa in Orlando East. She has also worked as a content adviser and editor with the Gauteng education department.

She has also worked as a student nurse at Sandringham Gardens. To further her career, she moved to the Johannesburg Hospital.

Mam’ Angie became a health coordinator in her local civic association. She was the founder of the Democratic Nursing Organization of South Africa.

She was also chosen to facilitate the Solidarity Intergenerational Dialogue for the Office of the President. She was also nominated as the new task team of the Gauteng Inter-sectoral Aids Unit.

She was diagnosed with HIV shortly after the birth of her son and faced discrimination because of her status. She had to start HIV wellness clinics in townships in Soweto and Mpumalanga. She aims at educating others and also eradicating the stigma attached to HIV.

Cause Death

In a statement released by the spokesperson for the family, she died on Thursday. She succumbed to a short illness.

“She was complaining of shortness of breath and subsequently treated at Tshepo Temba Hospital yesterday and later transferred to Leratong Hospital where she sadly passed in the early hours of this morning. The cause of death has been confirmed to be Pneumonia, [sic]”

The television personality leaves behind her husband, two children, a grandson, her mother, and brother.
