JJ Tabane (born July 30, 1964) is a South African media expert. He has worked with top radio stations and is the CEO of Sgwili Media Group. He has also worked in many other sectors holding top positions.
JJ Tabane’s primary objective is to make the media fair for his interviewees. When he is not on air, he is managing his businesses. He has many companies and private corporations scattered around South Africa.

Early Life
JJ Tabane was born to Reverend Matthew Mathethe and Helen Mapako on July 30, 1964. His father is a librarian at Ga-rankuwa Technikon while his mother is a senior lecturer at Hebron College.
Hailing from a family that knows the value of education, he underwent a strict educational upbringing. His mother is from the village of Bethanie, his father comes from Mathibestad.
His parents met when Matthew taught at Lerothodi high school in Bethanie. He was also the Canon Reverend in the Anglican Church and was ordained by late Bishop Richard Craft as a deacon in 1984. He became a priest in 1985 at St Alban’s Cathedral.
His sister Keorapetse is a qualified medical doctor and works at a hospital in Pietersburg, Northern Province.
Personal Life
JJ Tabane is married to the beautiful Nonhlanhla. Their union is blessed with two lovely children; a son Resego and a daughter Oreabetse. The couple created the name of their company by merging the names of their kids.
Education
After graduating from primary school, JJ began to study at Tsogo High School in 1983. He studied at the University of West Cape graduating with a BProc degree. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of the North.
JJ Tabane attended the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to earn a Master’s degree. In 2020, he received a Ph.D. in media studies at the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand.
Career
JJ served on Sawubina’s editorial board as the SAA’s Vice President of Communications from February 2004 to December 2006. During his tenure, he launched My SAA Radio and TV, My SAA Daily News program, and My SAA magazine.
While at South African Airways, he also established the company’s VIP Customer Care Unit. In April 2006, he led SAA into joining the Star Alliance.
Later, Onkoposte was the Group Executive of Altron, from 2007 to 2009. He serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Oresego Holdings. The company was launched in April 2010 and named after his children.
As a host, he worked on many radio and television programs. On his shows, he interviewed respected personalities and figures in South Africa. All though he encountered challenges in his media work.
In 2018, JJ was suspended by Power FM from presenting the show Power Perspective for violating the company’s policies. He left to join Newzroom Afrika as Your View show host where he received another suspension.
JJ Tabane was suspended because of the comments he made on witchcraft in Limpopo. Many saw his statement as disrespectful to the entire province.
Apart from the media, he is the director of the BEE Resolution company. JJ is also a trustee at the West Cape University Foundation and a former Council member of Northwest University. He is a council member of the West Cape University.
