PSG boss vows fans will witness the best version of Lionel Messi next season

Dubbed one of the best signings for Paris St. Germain by far, many would agree that Lionel Messi failed to live up to that expectation in France.

The former Barcelona skipper sensationally left the Spanish La Liga giants and embarked on a new page in the French Ligue1 – joining PSG in August last year.

However, he failed to carry the momentum which made him one of the most feared midfielders in Spain, but his boss feel he will be a different player come next season.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted that the Argentine international was far from his best in this previous season.

In support of the nippy dribbling wizard, Al-Khelaifi is of the view that the club’s die-hard supporters will witness a revived Messi who will enter his second campaign in Paris.

“There is no doubt that Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or a record seven times, and it was not his best season,” he told Le Parisien.

“But after more than 20 years in Barcelona, he discovered a new country, a new city, a new league, a new team. A new culture. As well as his family, and he was injured also by the coronavirus.

“It was not easy for Messi last season, but next season we will see the best version of Messi ever.”

Based on his standards, scoring a mere six goals out of 26 Ligue 1 appearances is not easily accepted but the fans will hope to see an improved display from the current Ballon d’Or holder.

Having spent many years at Barca since 2004, the 34-year-old has netted 681 goals coupled with 317 assists when judging his 809 appearances across all competitions.

Remaining with the Parisiens, the club has parted ways with manager Mauricio Pochettino who failed to guide the side to the UEFA Champions League triumph.
