Bongani Majola: SA mourns the passing of ex-Rhythm City actor and Kwaito star

The South African entertainment industry is mourning yet another loss in the passing of former Rhythm City actor Brian ‘Bruno’ Majola.

Media reports filtering through to Entertainment SA indicate that Majola was found by his girlfriend who is working as a chef.

News24 has it that the actor, who played Bongani in the eTV soapie that has been discontinued, was also a rapper and a Kwaito musician.

The website has quoted Majola’s friend Pardon Makamu who confirmed the sad news and the social media community is now paying tributes to the fallen star.

It is also indicated that Majola and Makamu have been friends for a decade but could not confirm the details surrounding his friend’s death.

“I can’t believe this. I found out soon after it happened,” Makamu confirmed.

“I haven’t gotten the full details as yet. Bruno and his girlfriend were staying at his mom’s house before lockdown in Emndeni in Soweto and he also had another place in Dube.

“I don’t think I want to share all the information I was told because the family is still processing the news but I am in disbelief, to say the least.

“We met through Zola 7 in Melville where we both stayed. At the moment we were not in a good place and we were not talking, but we were best friends.”

Meanwhile, ‘Bruno’ was in the Kwaito duo Gumshev with Fisto back in the early 2000s and spoke openly about growing up around the wrong crowd.

Majola spent some time in a juvenile prison and signed a record deal with Ghetto Ruff upon his release – he went on to produce albums such as Straight Out Of Prison and Sthandu Cash – before launching his production company, Jamshack Records.
