Mamelodi Sundowns iconic skipper Hlompho Kekana announces retirement 

Legendary Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana has decided to hang up his boots and released an emotional message on social media.

The Limpopo-born star says he opted to call it a day and wrote a lengthy statement on Twitter.

Kekana is one of the most decorated players in the South African football space, boasting all the gold medals on offer in the top flight.

Among his trophies are the coveted CAF Champions League and Super Cup titles including an appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup.

‘KK’ announced the news on Tuesday and will now focus on his gig with SABC Sport where he is employed as an analyst.

The 37-year-old took to Twitter to confirm that he will now venture into life after football as he calls time on a professional career that kick-started at Black Leopards in the early 2000s.

The revered midfielder also played for PSL sides such as Bloemfontein Celtic and featured in over 230 matches for the Brazilians.

Known for his trademark long-range passes and thunderbolts, Kekana netted 28 goals, some of which have been audacious free kicks.

The Zebediela-born icon donned the Bafana Bafana jersey on 30 occasions and his fans will now hope to see his pundit career growing.
