SAFE SIGNS OF RELATIONSHIP

We tend to focus on more on being cautious than accepting that relationships are also a safe haven as well. When it comes to relationships, we often hear about toxic relationships and red-flags that we should always look out for, but it’s uncommon that we get to hear about the green-flags or the good things we should look out for in relationships. Here are 5 green-flags in a relationship.

They’re respectful

We often overlook how our partners treat other people as long they are nice and respectful to us. If your partner respects everyone equally, regardless of who they are, then that is a green-flag.

They communicate effectively

Communication is important in relationships. But most couples don’t know how to have honest and open conversations without hurting each other’s feelings. That is a sign of a toxic relationship. Being in a relationship with someone who values your opinion and doesn’t resort to (a form of emotional abuse and manipulation that can often go unnoticed) when you’re unhappy about something, is important.

They’re accountable

We all make mistakes and it’s important to realise that nobody is perfect. Another sign of a green-flag is being in a relationship with someone who accounts for their mistakes and takes full responsibility when they’ve done something to make you feel hurt or sad.

They’re not controlling

It’s easy to mistake a controlling partner as someone who cares and loves you. A loving and caring partner will respect you and your decisions, and they will let you be yourself without trying to change you.

They understand consent

Many people mistake being in a relationship as a go-ahead for the other partner to do as they please with their bodies. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. Not asking for consent simply because it’s your bae – doesn’t make it right. Rape in a relationship is possible, and a good partner will understand your “no” – without trying to convince you to change your mind.

Healthy relationships are important because they’re good for our overall well-being. Falling in love is amazing, and falling in love with someone who makes your world amazing is even better. If you recognise any of these characteristics in your partner then you are on the right path!
