Manchester United have completed the signing of former Real Madrid star midfielder Casemiro on a four-year deal with an option to extend for a further season.
The Brazil international joins the Red Devils as they seek redemption following their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Under manager Erik ten Hag, the English Premier League giants have managed to attract the interest of the 30-year who comes with a winning mentality.
The Red Devils announced that they have signed defensive midfielder Casemiro from Los Blancos in a deal reported to be worth an initial €60 million (R1 billion), rising to €70 million (R1.1 billion) with add-ons.
Acording to The Athletic, the 30-year-old former Los Blancos attacker will be one of the highest-paid players in the team as he was already one of the biggest earners at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is understood that although the transfer is now official, the robust midfielder will not be registered in time for United’s match against Liverpool on Monday.
Meanwhile, his ex-manager Carlo Ancelotti, has given the midfielder his blessings as he will join former Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford.
“I talked to (Casemiro) this morning,” the 63-year-old said in a press conference on Friday afternoon, per ESPN’s Alex Kirkland.
“He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity. I and the club understand it.
“With what he’s done at this club and the person he is, we have to respect it.”
It is now expected that the European champion will make his debut against Southampton on 27 August.
