Pitso Mosimane on why South Africans don’t love him and gets love from outside

Former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane says he doesn’t feel the love from his nation, South Africa, revealing he is loved more outside of the country.

‘Jingles’ spoke to Thabo Mdluli on Radio 702, saying many African coaches are asking him why he is not working in the DStv Premiership or the national team.

Mosimane was recently contracted to Egyptian giants Al Ahly but left the club in a shocking departure, and he is yet to land a new football home.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns manager was in charge of Bafana after the 2010 FIFA World Cup but he was axed and says he doesn’t understand why was that so.

“I’ve just done my pro licence done by the Morocco Federation via an invite, can you believe that? It’s the first one that was done in Africa and hopefully, my country can follow,” he told Thabo Mdluli on Radio 702’s TheCMShow.

“The coaches there, they ask me, even Aliou Cisse, he asked me ‘why you don’t coach South Africa?’ They look at my country as it is, for them they look up to South Africa, we’re top in the continent and all that.

“I said ‘I was there and they sacked me, they said they know more than me. The guys were saying ‘are you serious? If you are leading the continent as one of the top coaches here in the continent and South Africa is not doing well, who is coaching them?’

“I then said it’s a different situation. To be honest with you, I feel appreciated more outside than in my country, to be honest.”

He reflects on the differences between the Egyptians and South Africans, saying sometimes he is misunderstood in Mzansi because of different backgrounds.

“We come from a different culture, our history also plays a part in that, because our country is not together,” he added.

“In Egypt, they are all Egyptians. There is no minority of white people, no it’s Egyptians. In Senegal, it’s Senegalese. I was invited now to Tanzania…

“Our country we come from those backgrounds. But also we have a rivalry that’s so big in our country between (Orlando) Pirates, (Kaizer) Chiefs and Sundowns, so if you are associated with a certain team, other people might not like you.

“When you move from the other team, other people also might not like you. I don’t think everybody at Sundowns likes me now.”
