Rick Ross has been fined for labour law violations at five of his chicken wing company’s franchise locations in Mississippi.
Among the violations, investigators found that the rapper’s company illegally forced employees to pay for their own uniforms, training, and background checks, covered till shortages from their own pocket (bringing their pay below minimum wage), and breaching child labour laws by allowing a 15-year-old employee to repeatedly work past 10pm.

In the wake of reports that rapper Rick Ross has been slapped up with a staggering fine by labour law bodies in the United States, the 46-year-old has responded and promised to do things properly.
Ross, William Leonard Roberts II, found himself on the wrong side of the law when it was reported that his family had been handed a hefty fine by the Department of Labour.
The fines imposed earlier this week emanate from labour law violations occurring at five of his Wingstop locations in Mississippi.
It is widely reported that Ross was subject to $114,427 worth of fines, including over $50k in back pay and over $60k in penalties.
The Source reports that the violations included making his staffers pay for uniforms and background checks, taking money out of employees’ checks if registers were short, and leaving some employees making less than the federally mandated $7.25/hr.
On top of that, the musician employed an under 18 worker and it’s mentioned that the 15-year-old even worked until 10pm which is three hours beyond 7pm – a cut-off time for employees under 18 as per labour regulations.
In his response via video on social media, he admitted to making mistakes and vowed to do better as he is still learning the tricks of running a business.
“I’ma take time to address something. When you run a business, there will be mistakes,” Ross said.
“But as the biggest boss, you never make the same mistake twice. You see, accountability. Taking accountability is big when you’re the biggest.
“And remember this: most successful people don’t take stumbling as a setback but actually, a stepping stone to greater things, you heard me? Let’s be great.”
