SA’s Thuso Mbedu wins Rising Star accolade at the Toronto Film Festival 

Mzansi’s actress Thuso Mbedu is delighted to be honoured by Toronto Film Festival and she is looking forward to showcasing her talents in the United States. 

Mbedu says she is grateful after receiving recognition from the Toronto Film Festival and she hopes to learn from the festival. 

Mbedu has been named as a Rising Star ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival that is set to kick off in September.  

Following her role in The Underground Railroad, the South African actress has wowed the world with her amazing acting skills.  

As she continues to climb the ladder on the small screen, Mbedu is now set to star in The Woman King alongside Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis. 

Mbedu headed to social media and said she hopes more film fanatics will come to see The Woman King for the very first time. 
 
“I look forward to learning and having an incredibly awesome time at the Toronto International Film Festival where everyone will get to see The Woman King for the very first time!” she posted on Instgram. 
 
The Toronto Film Festival is an annual event which is aimed at showcasing new Canadian and international talent while putting emphasis on the next generation poised for success. 

“The actors who are selected for the programme are immersed in a series of public events and private industry meetings during the festival. They undertake professional development with international casting directors, filmmakers, producers and industry executives,” read a statement regarding the honour. 

Mbedu will feature at the festival togetejr with stars such as Siv Ngesi, Masali Baduza, Makgotso M, as well the veteran Seputla Sebogodi.  
 
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Pietermaritzburg-born star recently bagged won an Independent Spirit Award, Gotham Award and Hollywood Critics Association Award.
