The iconic Table Mountain is targetting its fourth World Travel Awards for Africa’s Leading Attraction award after it was nominated earlier this year.
A win for Table Mountain would mean clinching the award for the fourth time in a row and the management has called on South Africans to vote for one of the country’s tourist sites.
Situated in Cape Town, the mountain is nominated alongside Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza, the V&A Waterfront, Robben Island, Lake Malawi, and Mount Kilimanjaro.
Managing Director for the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), Wahida Parker, expressed delight in the nomination, but said they face stiff competition from their rivals.

Dubbed one of the most beautiful mountains and loved tourist attractions in the world, Table Mountain was voted Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
The managing director remains confident the mountain would take the crown, once again, but she urges South Africans to stand behind it and cast their votes.
“This year, we face stiff hometown competition from Robben Island and the V&A Waterfront. The international challenge for this title comes from Lake Malawi, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Ngorongoro Crater, Okavango Delta, and the Pyramids of Giza,” said Parker.
“Our president reminded us of the benefits of tourism to our economy, and votes for awards such as these can turn the tide. We know the devastation Covid-19 caused to the tourism industry, and now we have to make up for the losses suffered.”
Moreover, Parker sent her gratitude to South Africans for supporting the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company during the Covid-19 pandemic when revenue from international revenue dwindled due to travel restrictions.
The World Travel Awards is the gold standard in the travel world and acknowledges service excellence and responsible operators each year.
Public voting for the Africa section of the annual World Travel Awards opened on May 23, and the winners will be announced later this year but the deadline for the votes is Thursday, August 24.
