The organizers of hit reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria, ‘MultiChoice group’ is taking things up a notch as the next instalment of the Big Brother Naija franchise will feature both Nigerian and South African housemates. This was made known by the CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, at the MultiChoice Media Showcase, which was held on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
The latest announcement comes barely a month to the season finale of the show’s seventh season tagged ‘Level Up’. With 13 housemates currently running for this year’s N100 million grand prize, the show has entertained fans with unexpected twists and turns as Big Brother introduced three house levels, two riders and two fake housemates. The show has also seen one disqualification, several strikes and fake evictions.
“Coming soon is a special Big Brother edition which will just have Nigerians and South Africans in one house. I can only imagine the explosion. Just imagine Afrobeats and Amapiano; imagine the food and everything else.” John Ugbe said.
Big brother Naija does not only impact the Nigerian economy. It impacts youths’ culture and drives delightful entertainment. According to Plaqad’s report in 2021, BBNaija creates up to 12,000 direct and indirect jobs. Moreover, the report reveals that 71.7% of respondents watch the show communally with family and friends, lending credence to its entertaining capabilities.
Big Brother Naija lies at the core of Nigerian pop culture. No surprise that fans and audiences are already weighing in on and driving conversations about the Nigerian and Mzansi merger on social media.
Reacting to the news, Dorathy Bachor, former BBNaija “Lock Down” housemate took to her social media pages to share her excitement about the merger.
She tweeted: “Big brother SA x Big Brother Naija in one house Mad ooo, 2023 #mcshowcase2022.”
