The last time Entertainment SA bumped into Lumko Johnson was at the YFM LYFE event at Altitude Beach in Fourways a month few months ago. Although Lumko looked a little bit seedy, he’s presence and vibrant personality still showed up.
Lumko Johnson will go into their grave as a celebrated producer on both radio and television, with most people having only great things to say about them. Many celebrities in the entertainment have mostly been shocked to hear of their passing which has been untimely and sudden. However, they will go down in history as a loving soul who had no problems with anyone they met on the show way in their life journey.
The Johnson family released a press release statement through Lumko Johnson’s social media to let their fans know they had passed on. They died on 14 September 2022, and the details around their death are not yet shared with the public. The details of all funeral and memorial arrangements will be shared with their family in due course. They asked the media to respect their privacy as they deal with their loss.

Lumko Johnson rose to fame on SABC 1’s kids’ programme Yotv as a presenter and has been active in the industry till their death. They nurtured a great career as a producer in both the television industry and radio. Their job also consisted of an arm in the writing department. They were also actors as they held several roles in drama series like iNkaba, Mzansi Love, Kowethu, Unmarried and many more. They were a significant figure in the LGBTQIA+ community and the fashion industry. All these communities have suffered a great loss.
Lumko Johnson is one of the several celebrities who have died untimely in the celebville. The list includes Mncedisi Shabangu, Ricky Rick, Busi Lurayi, and others. They will forever be remembered for their illustrious career behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. This is on top of all the hearts they touched in the 32 years they have lived.
