Former Uzalo star Sandile Mfusi bags two gospel nominations

Ex-Uzalo actor Sandile Mfusi has secured two massive nominations at the 2022 Crown Gospel Awards for his album Kaleidoscope.

The talented actor, Mfusi, shared the news on his Instagram page and has thanked his fans for being patient as he promised to deliver a beautiful collection in his album.

Sandile Mfusi, also known as Masandi, is nominated in the Best Newcomer category and Best Gospel Video category for his hit song Ithemba.

Popular for his role in the SABC1 telenovela, Uzalo, Mfusi played the role of Kwanda Buthelezi, a drug dealer disguised as a businessman who ended up behind bars for his unlawful deeds.

In an interview with Sunday World, Mfusi, said the move from afro-pop to the gospel has been an important and lifechanging route after surviving a car horrific accident that left him temporarily paralysed for more than three months.

“The type of music I make now is more meaningful and has more substance than before. When I’m in my creative process, I go a bit deeper than I used to. The aim is to convey a message that moves the listener both emotionally and spiritually,” said Mfusi per the publication.

Following the car accident, Mfusi, revealed that he asked God to spare his life and was only fully committed to the gospel genre in 2021, which he believes brought more blessings to him, including a role on Uzalo.

“Winning these awards would mean a lot to me. It would mean a recognition of this gift that God has given me, and that my music is making an impact, and that I am on the right path,” he added.

In addition, the gospel singer says he plans to release a single and EP in March next year.

With the awards ceremony set to honour gospel artists, they are scheduled to be hosted at the Durban International Convention Centre in KwaZulu-Natal on November 27.
