According to News24, Lushaba told police that he was a victim of a house robbery on August 5 and filed a theft case at a Tshwane police station.
However, News24 revealed that a sex worker he brought to his house while his wife was away on business had actually robbed him.
News24 further reported, while Bheki Cele’s office stated that he was aware of the situation, there was no mention of whether Lushaba would face perjury and defeating the ends of justice charges.
According to News24, Lushaba told police that he left his house on the evening of August 5 and went to bed when he returned.
He claimed his house was in order, but when he awoke, his cellphone and laptop, both valued at R75 000, were gone.
According to News24, there was no mention of the firearm being stolen.
They went on to say that a woman, believed to be a sex worker, robbed him in the early hours of the morning.
South Africa’s Independent Policing Union has asked National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola to suspend Lushaba.
According to News24, CI officers were able to track down the laptop and firearm, which is when the circumstances surrounding its disappearance were revealed.
According to a source, because Lushaba was a senior official, nothing was done, and if it had been someone else, they would have been fired.
According to News24, police did not respond to several questions about the charges against Lushaba.
Police confirmed that Lushaba’s theft case was being investigated.
Ipusa stated that it would not back down and demanded that Masemola take disciplinary action against Lushaba.
