Terry Pheto denies any involvement in a multi-million rand Lotteries Commission fraud scheme

Terry Pheto, a South African actor, has denied any involvement in a multi-million rand Lotteries Commission fraud scheme under investigation by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

The Pretoria High Court granted the SIU a preservation order on Friday to seize nine luxury properties in Pretoria, Centurion, Hartbeespoort, and Johannesburg, as well as a BMW 420i and two Ocean Basket franchises in the East Rand, totaling approximately R25 million.

Pheto was named as one of several individuals and businesses accused of profiting from the alleged property fraud.

In a statement posted to social media on Saturday, the Tsotsi star expressed her “dismay” at being the subject of the SIU investigation.

“I deny any involvement in the alleged scheme that has been reported on. I also had no prior knowledge of an application to obtain a preservation order against me.”

She added that she will “cooperate fully with this investigation in an open and transparent manner.”

Since Friday’s SIU revelations, the internationally acclaimed star has dominated social media trends, eliciting mixed reactions from fans and South Africans alike.
