In the midst of serious legal drama, Donell Mbele has turned to his Instagram to share cryptic messages that have left followers questioning his motives.
Just hours after appearing in court on charges of sexual assault, the 23-year-old son of actress Sonia Mbele posted a message of resilience and faith, declaring, “Better days are coming. Keep your head up boi.”
But this wasn’t the only post that raised eyebrows. Before his court appearance, Donell shared an image of a church interior with a Bible, accompanied by a powerful scripture from Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you, declares the Lord.”
Mbele appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court following allegations from his 17-year-old girlfriend.
The young woman claims that Donell sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions – December 14 and 15 – after a night out.
The couple allegedly went for drinks in Clearwater and, upon realising the restaurant was closing, they decided to head to another venue. However, the situation reportedly took a dark turn when Donell invited her to his Morningside home to “charge his phone,” where the alleged assault occurred.
In a statement released by National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjondwane, the young woman alleges that things turned violent once they arrived at Donell’s home.
The case was postponed for further investigation, with Donell released on R1000 bail.
Donell posts have sparked speculation, with many wondering if he is using his platform to subtly defend himself against the serious allegations that have dominated headlines.
