The world’s tallest woman flies for the first time after the airline removes six economy seats to make it possible

The world’s tallest woman will be able to fly for the first time after the airline removed six economy seats to make room for her.

Rumeysa Gelgi, who stands 2.1 metres tall, was named the world’s tallest woman last year by Guinness World Records.

Turkish Airlines modified one of their planes in September to allow her to travel to San Francisco, removing six seats and replacing them with a special stretcher for her to travel on the 13-hour flight, according to MailOnline.

Gelgi, 24, had previously been unable to fly due to her short stature, which was caused by Weaver syndrome, a condition that causes bone overgrowth among other things. According to the outlet, she was too big for plane seats even as a child.

Because of her condition, she usually moves around in a wheelchair or with a walker.

Gelgi posted a series of photos of herself on the journey to Instagram, calling it “a flawless journey from start to finish.”

“This was my first flight, but it certainly won’t be the last. From now on, I will be very honored and happy to fly to different parts of the world with @turkishairlines. A heartfelt thank you to every single person involved in my journey,” she wrote.

According to the MailOnline, Gelgi relocated to California to further her career in software development and to work with Guinness World Records.

Gelgi earned her first Guinness World Record in 2014, when she was named the world’s tallest living adolescent, before becoming the world’s tallest woman in 2021.

She also holds the world record for having the largest hands, longest finger, and longest back.
