After their heartbreaking defeat at the FIFA World Cup at the hands of Croatia last week, Brazil star Neymar is undecided on his future.
The South Americans lost their FIFA World Cup quarter-final match on penalties and an emotional Neymar said he can’t decide on his future at the moment.
Speaking to the media in Qatar, the Paris St. Germain attacker says he is still in pain and can’t really think straight at the present moment.
“Honestly, I do not know. I think talking now is bad because of the heat of the moment. Maybe I’m not thinking straight,” an emotional Neymar told reporters.
“To say that this is the end would be rushing myself, but I don’t guarantee anything either. Let’s see what happens going forward.
“I want to take this time to think about it, think about what I want for myself. I will not close the door to playing with Brazil, nor do I say 100% that I’ll come back.”
Neymar’s teammate Dani Alves said that he would be retiring from international duty but intended to keep playing at the club level.
As they faced the Croatians, Neymar put the South Americans ahead with a brilliant mazy run in the first half of extra time.
However, their opponents pulled one back three minutes from time and went on to win a penalty shoot-out 4-2 to go through to the semi-finals where they will face Argentina on Tuesday.
“I am psychologically destroyed. This was undoubtedly the defeat that hurt me the most, which left me paralyzed for 10 minutes and right after I burst into non-stop tears,” Neymar wrote after the loss on Friday.
“It’s going to hurt for so long, unfortunately. We fought until the end. I am proud of my teammates because there was no lack of commitment and dedication.
“This group deserved it, we deserved it, BRAZIL deserved it. But this was not the will of GOD! It was worth every sacrifice to feel the affection of each one of us from on the field. Thank you all for your support of our national team.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. It’s going to hurt for a long, long time. Thank you for everything my GOD, you have given me everything so I can’t complain.
“Just thank you for taking care of me. All the honour and glory always goes to you, no matter the circumstances.”
